Glory In The Air

GLORY IN THE AIR

How great are his signs! --Daniel 4:3

You are ethereal. My faith is weak.
Just show me that You really are there--
An eagle, butterfly, a lightning streak,
Or just a shapely cloud up in the air.
The San Francisco ticket agent frowned.
I told my story: late, I rushed on plane,
I sat in only empty seat around,
My ticket Dallas/Boston, can’t explain.
The jet took off and turned and headed West?
I’m on the wrong plane! Out my window’s quite
A sight--the shadow of my plane, I’m impressed,
And round the plane a rainbow clear and bright.
“What do you think of it?” “I will not mince
My words, for it was just coincidence.”

Zama American High School Class of 1960

ZAMA AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1960

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships
on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter
in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All these moments
will be lost in time, like tears in rain. --Roy Batty, Blade Runner

All I desired was to share my life
With Someone. From a child among the snow
And shattered dreams and Hitler's people's strife
To swampland sunsets and ship's deck below,
From Splendor in the Grass on a starlit
Hilltop in Japan to the agony
And joy of my first poem's birth, from hit
Songs, dancing cheek to cheek, and fantasy
To my first major failure and demeaning
Job, from blue duffel bag to house and land
And two-car garage; my thoughts are parading
Past empty seats in the reviewing stand.
From each of us the light of glory shone.
Is each of us uniquely all alone?
